State Directors Report

On Tuesday, February 1st a Board of Directors meeting of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of New York
was held in Albany, New York. The main thrust of the meeting was the preparation of Legislation Day, which was
to take place on February 2nd.
All in all, the Directors were unanimous consent that IIAANY’S effort should be focused on a standard windstorm
deductible and common windstorm trigger. I can assure you this message was delivered by all those who attended
the "L" Day on February 2nd.
The key issue at the Board of Directors meeting concerning the Independent Agents Association of Queens and Kings
Counties, was the Queens and King’s Board’s written request asking IIAANY’s permission to get the National Independent
Agents Association to rename the Young Agents Conference, The Joel S. Pollack National Agents Conference. After
much debate, the following resolution was passed:
The New York State Young Agents Award given annually, at either the Young Agents Conference or the Agents Conference
will now be known as The Joel S. Pollack Young Agents Award.
The Board members further agreed that Ed Higgins, National State Director, will contact the appropriate people
at National to try to get the National Young Agent of the Year Award also known as the Joel S. Pollack award.
Personally, I wanted to share a story with you that was told to me at the Board of Directors meeting after the
Board unanimously voted on the above. Bob Pillar, State Director of Rockland County and Young Agent of the Year
a few years ago, told me that the night he won the Young Agent Award. Joel said it was his desire to one day be
recognized as the Young Agent of the Year in the State of New York. Bob assured Joel that with his efforts, that
feat would surely be met. Unfortunately, Joel didn't live long enough to get that honor bestowed upon him; but
his peers saw fit that his name will now be synonymous with this award forever. A great tribute to my friend and
colleague.
Joel, wherever you are, I love ya.
